Dr. Barraza is the medical director of Munson Palliative Medicine in Traverse City, Michigan. He also serves as medical director for Munson’s Hospice Care program, and occasionally works as a hospitalist. Dr. Barraza received is MD and PhD degrees from Mayo Clinic, completed Internal Medicine residency at Wayne State University and completed fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He serves on the Bioethics Resource Committee at Munson Medical Center, the Munson Healthcare Opioid Stewardship Committee, and Cancer Committee at Cowell Family Cancer Center. He is also involved in the clinical education of medical students and physician residents in hospice and palliative medicine. He has served as an invited lecturer at University of Michigan, the Michigan Society of Hematology and Oncology, Northern Physicians Organization, and the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians, among others. His clinical interests are in palliative care and include education and effective communication with patients and families, managing complex pain symptoms in patients with serious illness, and leading efforts to promote palliative care in community-based hospitals and rural communities.
